Bonne anniversaire Marguerite

A small message to let everyone know our Marguerite turned 200,000 on the final day of our holiday.HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!
That day we celebrated with a drive in the snow.
She looked after us very well during the vacation and it's very hard to think about stranger taking her away. If anyone knows how much it would cost to freight three tonns of rust to France, please let us know.

We'll miss you Marguerite.

Kosciusko

Snif... snif...
And we thought we had seen the last of the snow in Tassie. But, here we are in Kosciusko NP driving in the snow again. We managed one walk before the snow, so we were happy that we managed to see a little of the park. It's still a beautiful place when the weather's ugly, but we enjoyed the view from inside Marguerite.

Tasmania - La fin

By chance we found another amazing place for viewing wildlife. Narawntapu NP is in the north of Tassie and is a fairly quiet NP from what the Ranger told us. I don;t know why, because even though there were wombats everywhere, pademelons, wallabies, Devils and Quolls, the park itself is quite lovely. But seeing all these animals was obviously the highlight. Wombats are another animal you can watch for a very long time, so we did. We spent the night there and were lucky enough to see a Spotted Quoll as well.

After spending the morning watching the wildlife and going for a walk, we were talking to a Ranger who offered to take us out with a research team who were trapping the Tassie Devils to study them in this park. So of course we agreed thankfully and had a very unique chance to see these elusive creatures. It was great to talk to the researches about the Devils problem with a "contageous" cancer that is effecting their population very dramatically. They are using the data collected to try and find a solution, while hoping they can do something before it's too late.

On the north east coast of Tasmania we visited Binalong Bay. It's a small bay within the "Bay of Fires". With clear water, white sandy beaches and huge granite boulders it's a joy to stroll along the beach. I was doing the strolling actually while Elo more crawled/dawdled up the beach as she sorted through the piles of shells she wanted to bring home. So it turned out to be a nice leisurly half day stroll along the beach. But i'm really not complaining that i had to spend half a day walking alond a beach that glorious.

Maintenant chercher l'erreur:

I guess one good aspect of all the bloody rain is the waterfalls are enormous. Mount Feild NP hosts Russel Falls, which is one of the most incredible falls i've ever seen. Impossible to catch the feeling in these photos, but i highly recommend visiting the park.
I like pretty colours.
Our breif but enjoyable visit to Hobart was made even more enjoyable when the rain stopped for the afternoon. Such great looking old buildings.

Tasmania - Cradle Mountain

I think if you've heard of Tasmania, you probably know Cradle Mountain. Its the picture on most of the tourist brochures, flyers, pamphlets, posters, handouts and any other form of media seen by the tourists. But on none of those above mantioned items did they provide a picture of Cradle Mountain with fog, rain, snow and ferocious winds at the same time. So i think our photos are kind of special, and white. But we had a nice walk (Elo's idea, not mine) in the snow anyway.

"I can't see any Mountian"Apres donc deux bonnes heures de marche, on arrive enfin a Marguerite...Pauvre Marguerite
My poor precious Margeurite, what did she do to deserve this????

Voici la route:I'm sure all of those people who met Margeurite before we left on "The Trip" might have had a small suspicion that maybe she might not make it all the way around this beautiful continent. But, here she was, after tackling creeks, dodging Kangaroos, crossing deserts and accepting her final challenge, Snow. (Maybe she's a Transformer???? One of the Autobots????)We love her.Margeurite, ROLL OUT!!!

As Borat would say"Sunshieen Creeeeke", Pause, "Nooooooooooot"

Tasmania - Pour toi David

On the first day in Tasmania we were greated by the rainand although we knew in parts of Tassie it rains 7 out of 10 days, we were a little disappointed. But we only had a week on the island so we had to get cracking. Our first stop was a small parc with a trail called Fern Glade. Sounds lovely, the main reason we went there was to see this little fellow:

Maintenant direction Cradle Mountain.

After watching the Platypus feeding along the river, we visited the Cheese factory where the local genuises make the "Signature" brand of cheeses. They are my favourite types of Camembert and Brie. Sensational. A quick price comparison and we loaded up Marguerite, then proceeded to eat cheese for lunch for the rest of the week. Marvelous.

The Great Ocean Road

This was the second time that Elo and i have visited the Great Ocean Road, yet we found it just as amazing as the first. We managed to arrive at the Twelve Apostles just in time for sunset, which turned out to be very cold but picturesque.

After staying at the Twelve Apostles to watch the sunset, we had to find a place to stay. Along the coast towards Melbourne we found a State Park that offered free campsites, so being the thrifty pair we are, we decided to stop there for the night. Straight to bed, ready for an early start the following day. But while having a cuppa and a few bikkies, we spotted a Koala walking behind Margeurite!! What a shock. After watching this particular Koala taking a drink, we looked around the campground and found about another TEN. There were also three mothers with young stuck on their backs, hanging on for their lives. So what was planned as a sleeping stop-over, turned into a three day Koala watching safari. And i can tell you that even after three days it was hard to leave. We love them.
