Martinique

Our trip to Martinique was amazing. Out of all the incredible things we did, saw, ate, drank and experienced, here are a few photos to give you an idea. (There are about 2000 more)

Hiking, up at 6am and after a short drive into the center of the island, we started our hike with a group that Elo's cousin, Nathalie walks with regularly. It was great to be with people who shared their knowledge about the forest, birds and fruits with us. Above, Elo got her feet wet crossing a river.

One of the several distilleries we visited. Luckily I had a chauffeur.

Anse(Cove/bay) Dufour, an amazing cove with incredible underwater life.

The next anse was Anse Noir, where as you can see, the sand is black.

It's not so easy to catch the Montagne Pelée without clouds on it's peak.

One of my favourite moments, a Tarantula, or Mygale. This was head height just next to the path during one of our hikes.

Apart form the clowns on the right, there is a heart shaped hole in the rock formation on the left.
What can I say?

Le Diamant, a small island just off the shore in the south of Martinique.

Smiling, but there's a long way to get to the top.

Believe it or not, here we're at the top of the Montagne Pelée. With a view of the clouds.

The canal Beauregard, is an impressive man made canal carved into the side of a mountain. So at some moments, as you're walking along the canal wall, 40cm wide, there is water on one side and nothing on the other.

Our second day sunset, after a hike in the morning, a raining afternoon, we watched the sun go down, then ate dinner on the beach. Ahh, the good life.

Pointe Faula, there is a very long sand bar that goes from the shore, straight out.

Buggy time. In the north east of the island at Basse Pointe, we rented a buggy and took a tour at the foot of the Montagne Pelée. Our guide, Eric, was great fun and very interesting to talk to about bananas, sugar cane and pineapples.

                                                        An authentic Martiniquan shower.

                                                              Another river crossing.

This was my first hike in socks. The road had been closed for a long time, so there was a lot of moss which made the road very slippery. So we decided to just wear our socks.
