Special Weekend

Thanks to the wonderful tradition in France of having a public holiday on a Thursday, and letting everyone have a kind of unofficial holiday on Friday, Elo and I took advantage and went for a small camping trip on the coast of Brittany. We bought a new tent and packed the car with only essential items and hit the road early Thursday morning.

This is our new fancy 2 second tent. It unfolds by itself in 2 seconds, then you stick four pegs in the ground, and the guide ropes, and presto.
Our first destination was Mont St Michel. It is an abbey which has been built on a small island, fortified and contains a small village at the base. It's really a beautiful place to see and spend the day. The beauty and originality mean that the abbey is a very popular attraction, so we were happy to arrive early in the morning and take in the village without too many people. As the day progressed the number of tourists rose quickly.

The island the abbey is built on is almost surrounded at high tide, then by exposed sand flats at low tide. We had great weather too which is not always guaranteed in this part of France.
We had found a camp site close to the island, so we returned at night after the lights had been turned on. This is where the weekend turned rather special for me, and I guess Elo too. Although Elo has enquired on numerous occasions when "the question" was going to be asked, I think it was still a surprise for her. So with my amazing girl in front of me and a beautiful setting beside us, I asked her to spend the rest of her life with me, as my wife.
And she said yes!

After the sensational memory that we took away from Mont St Michel, we kicked back and drove along the scenic coast of Brittany stopping for a try on some char à voile (flying chairs) This is basically wind surfing on wheels, great if the water is freezing and you have a long beach. it was a lot of fun, but the control of the sail is done by pulling on a rope to increase or decrease the tension, thus after an hour your hands feel like have permanently seied around the rope.
Then we continued on the St Malo, which has a old walled section of the city by the sea. It's lovely to walk through the small streets and then take a stroll along the top of the wall.
Another blue sky day.
These are pictures of an incredible fort on the coast of Brittany. Fort La Latte, stunning, and even more incredible becuase peaople still live in the fort with no electricity or running water.

The final city we visited on the way back to Nantes was Dinan. It again had a wall around the centre of town, and cute cobbled streets with old stone buildings. It really was charming to walk up and down the streets with an ice cream enjoying the Sunday calmness.
So, all in all I think the long weekend was an amazing memory for us, and probably one that will stay with us for a very long time.

This photo is especially for my Grandparents, because I know Grandma that you like to now if I'm eating well or anything interesting.
This was a salad that we ate at Elo's parents house, smoked Duck with fried duck gizzards(the section of stomach that grinds the grain) with lettuce and dressing. Delicious, really.

Miss you All.
